New Jersey Man Sentenced For Fatally Stabbing Friend
FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a central New Jersey man who fatally stabbed his friend after they fought at a party has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Twenty-six-year-old Julius Garrett of Howell Township must serve nearly 13 years of the sentence imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty last November to aggravated manslaughter in the June 2010 death of 24-year-old Scott Gregory.
Monmouth County prosecutors say Garrett and Gregory had attended a party that broke up when they started fighting. Gregory then walked home, while Garrett was driven to his brother's home.
Garrett and his brother soon got back into the car with three girls, and the group soon came across Gregory. The two friends started fighting again and Garrett stabbed Gregory in the chest and the back.
