NJ Comptroller And Gov. Christie Vow To Make Changes To Community Colleges
By David Madden
TRENTON, NJ (CBS) -- New Jersey's Comptroller has reviewed how the state's community colleges pay their presidents, and he and Governor Christie are calling for some changes.
Not only are some very well paid, but they have access to expensive perks. Governor Chris Christie cites just one example.
"You have people's country club memberships paid for by tuition or tax dollars at county colleges. That's disturbing," he explains.
Then there are extravagant relocation expenses: almost $700 to transport a family pet coast to coast, spouse travel, credit cards and higher than suggested contributions to retirement plans.
The bottom line? Comptroller Matthew Boxer is calling for a uniform set of rules for community colleges to live by…and that bonuses be tied to performance. Christie vows to make those recommendations reality.
