NJ Bus Company Settles Disability Notice Requirement
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department has reached a settlement with a New Jersey bus company that it claimed unfairly excluded passengers with disabilities.
Federal prosecutors said Montclair-based DeCamp Bus Lines violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by mandating that such passengers provide 48 hours advance notice to secure a wheelchair-accessible bus. Customers without disabilities did not have to provide such notice.
Under the agreement, the bus company will not exclude persons with disabilities and no longer requires the advance notice.
The department of transportation requires all large, fixed-route motor coach buses must be 100 percent accessible to those with disabilities.
