NJ Assembly, Senate Could Approve Online Gambling Today

PENNSAUKEN, NJ (CBS) - On this, the same day Governor Christie is to give his budget address, New Jersey could become the third state to legalize online gambling, joining Nevada and Delaware.
New Jersey's state Assembly and Senate are both planning to approve the changes the governor asked for earlier this month when he vetoed an online betting bill. Those changes include a 10-year trial period and higher taxes on casinos' online winnings.
New Jersey residents weighing in, and while some worry it's too easy to blow through some serious cash while gambling online, Fred Baker from Marlton is a supporter. "I think it's a great idea, I think it will bring some money into the state, and I think with the casinos and the competition from Pennsylvania, it will help New Jersey."
Cheryl from Pennsauken thinks it comes down to personal responsibility and is okay with legalizing it, though she says she sees how it could be an issue. "When you're at the casino you can see exactly what's in your hand and that's what you can spend. Online, you can go through it real fast."
Calvin from Pennsauken says online betting really isn't his thing, "I prefer Atlantic City more because the boardwalk, as soon as I lose all my money I can go out on the Boardwalk and relax."
It could take up to a year to get the program running. Patrons could then set up an online account with an Atlantic City casino, including age verification. Gamblers could then play any game now offered in Atlantic City casinos, including electronic versions of slots and table games.
