NFL Analyst Heath Evans On Eagles: '2-0 Record, But They're 1-1'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Heath Evans is what you call an "Eagles hater."
If you remember, when the Eagles hired Chip Kelly, Evans said, "It could be NFL's worst [hire] ever." Then, Evans clumsily back-tracked almost exactly one year later.
NFL Network's Elliot Harrison ranked the Eagles third his NFL power rankings this week. Evans was asked what stood out to him when looking at Harrison's top-ten NFL teams.
"The 1-1 Eagles being at number three," Evans said adamantly. "You listen, they're 1-1. They have a 2-0 record, but they're 1-1. They were given a game, you know, and I have a big problem with that as a player. I mean there was two calls late in that game that changed the outcome of this game and that makes me very unhappy as a player. Andrew Luck, Chuck Pagano they handled it with utmost of class---T.Y. Hilton.
Evans, the NFL Network analyst and former NFL fullback, thinks a no-call on Brandon Boykin guarding T.Y. Hilton late in Monday night's Eagles at Colts game, resulting in a Malcolm Jenkins interception, was the sole reason the Eagles prevailed. Evans goes as far as to say, the Eagles aren't even a top-ten NFL team.
"He's [Luck] looking for a ref because he saw this [a penalty]," Evans explained as the highlight rolled. "Everybody saw this and yet how do you miss it? So listen, the Eagles being ranked three, they were down 17-0 at half at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Listen, I'm not all that impressed with the Eagles as a whole. Them at [number] three, when you look at the game tape and you see what they do well and what they don't do well, they're no where near close to the third best in the league. They're probably not even in the top ten."
The 2-0 Eagles are ranked No. 1 in total offense and 13th in total defense. Offensively, despite offensive-line injuries and below-average play from the receivers, the Birds lead the NFL in yards per game (439), points per game (32), and total yards (878). Defensively, the Eagles are the 11th best team in passing yards allowed per game (207) and 13th in total yards allowed per game (323.5).
The Eagles became the just the third team in NFL history to amass 400-plus yards of total offense 14 times during an 18-game span (NO in 2011-12, DEN in 2013-14). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Eagles are the fourth team in the last 30 years to win consecutive games after trailing by 14 or more in the second half.
Evans is certainly entitled to his opinion, but if you ask me, he's just an "Eagles hater."
