PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Boys Choir is internationally known for its beautiful and unique voices. After 44 years, they are getting are getting a major addition -- the Philadelphia Girls Choir.
They're called "America's Ambassadors of Song" and their West Philadelphia headquarters was lovingly called, "The Embassy," but it was small and in need of repair.
When Drexel offered to buy it for $2.5-million dollars, executive director Anne Hagen says the board saw an opportunity.
"We have so much interest from sisters of boys in the choir and people from the community asked us for years to start a girls choir, and we thought with a larger facility that was something we could accommodate."
The choir is temporarily at Trinity Church but just bought the FOP building on Spring Garden St., nearly tripling their usable space. Twenty girls launched the program in February but auditions for a full 50-voice choir are scheduled for June 2nd.
