New Year's Eve Means Champagne
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Year's Eve is traditionally the time for champagne.
What is it about New Year's that makes us want to celebrate with champagne?
David Moore of Moore Brothers Wine Company says, "I think it's just a question of cultural traditions more than anything else. Popping the bottles and getting together with loved ones."
And Moore says there's a special method of popping champagne bottles:
"First, you want to make sure it's fairly well chilled and then when you are attempting to open it, one should hold the cork as tightly as possible and twist the bottle gently. It should not be a big loud pop and if you twist the bottle gently and pull gently, you'll have a nice clean opening with a little pop but not a big explosion of foam."
What does this wine connoisseur think about those who celebrate by spraying champagne all over the room?
"I just think it's silly but other than that it's not my place to judge."
