New Web Site Helps US Military Vets in Philadelphia Find Services

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia today launched a web portal to help US military veterans find local services.

The site is a one-stop clearinghouse where veterans and their families can find links to Philly-specific services including jobs, housing, and treatment.

The site is funded by the city's Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.

"In the veteran community we don't always do the best job of asking for help," veterans' service coordinator Mike Brown, a US Army vet who served four years in Bosnia, noted at today's announcement.  "We're trained as veterans to be able to accomplish missions, to do what we need to do.  And sometimes asking for help is sort of difficult."

Brown says the site (http://philadelphia.pa.networkofcare.org/veterans) is one of only a handful of locally oriented veterans' service portals in the nation.
