New Survey Indicates GOP Voters Awaiting Better Choices For 2012
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new national survey shows Republican voters looking for more choices.
The newest CBS News poll offering an early look at Campaign 2012 is a real eye opener.
The Republicans are getting no satisfaction. Seventy-one percent of GOP are hoping for somebody new, and 67 percent could not name a candidate they are happy with. Of the remaining 23 percent, about a third favor Mitt Romney and a third favor Michele Bachmann (see related stories).
There is also another kind of enthusiasm gap in this poll. By nine points, Republican voters are more enthusiastic about voting next year than Democrats are.
On the job approval front, President Obama gets 47 percent -- the same as three weeks ago. The economy is still his big issue, with 63 percent saying the country is headed in the wrong direction. Fifty-two percent disapprove of his handling of the economy, but he's not blamed by everyone for the current state of the economy. Twenty-five percent of voters blame Wall Street and the Bush administration.
