New St. Joseph's University President Visits Campus
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Saint Joseph's University's new president was introduced today to students, faculty, and staff at an on-campus gathering.
Father C. Kevin Gillespie received his undergraduate degree at St. Joe's in 1972. Today, he was welcomed home as the school's 27th president.
"As president, I intend to make us known even more as a place to create connections -- a current of electricity that I can feel already on this campus today," he told the crowd, "with people, with ideas, with the diverse cultures of our city, our region, our nation and our world, who need our students to go forth, undergraduate and graduate, to share their skills that they honed here at this great university."
Fr. Gillespie is associate provost for Loyola University's Centers of Excellence in Chicago.
St. Joe's senior vice president John W. Smithson will continue as interim president until Gillespie assumes the position in July.
