New South Jersey Transportation Center Connects 2 Rail Lines For First Time

PENNSAUKEN. N.J. (CBS) - A new transit station in Pennsauken, Camden County links two rail lines that crossed, but never connected -- until now.
The new $40 million Pennsauken Transit Center gives riders on the North-South River Line a chance to hop off and board an Atlantic City line train into Philadelphia or A.C.
After a morning ribbon cutting, New Jersey Transit executive director Jim Weinstein said NJT buses will serve the new station as well:
"I think it'll increase ridership on both the Atlantic City Line and the River Line," he said. "But the fact that people know that they can get to places, that frankly they used to have to travel extraordinary distances to do the same connection. Now, it's just sort of, get off, get on."

The station is on Derousse Avenue, just west of River Road.
Stairs and elevators connect the platforms for the River Line and the so-called Gambler's Express trains.
Riders will have to pay separate fares.
