New Science Standards Will Teach Climate Change

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Common Core Standards in Language Arts/Reading and Math are in place and kids nationwide in schools will be working on the same basics.
Now, Next Generation Science Standards developed by California and 25 other states, have been devised that will transform - for the first time in 15 years - the way science will be taught in a million classrooms. Each state will decide whether or not to adopt the new standards.
The focus will be on the relationship between change and human activity, how and why climate is changing and its human impact. The idea is to learn fewer standards more deeply and not just memorize, prompted by concerns of the U.S. falling behind global competitors.
A recent federal study showed that over the past ten years, jobs in science, technology, engineering and math were three times greater than other occupations. The new science standards will help prepare students.
