New Report Released On States' Levels Of Preparedness For Water Problems

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Natural Resources Defense Council has released a report on how ready states are for water problems created by climate change. And Pennsylvania is only one of nine states with an actual plan.
The report is titled "Ready Or Not: An Evaluation of State Climate and Water Preparedness Planning." Water Policy Analyst Ben Chou says Pennsylvania has a policy put together last year, but there hasn't been any action to implement it. He explains what climate change will mean for PA.
"[Pennsylvania is] One of the areas in the U.S. where we expect there to be more annual precipitation, but it's not going to be evenly distributed throughout the year. So, it's possible that you can get more water in the winter and the spring when you don't need it, and less water in the summer."
Chou also says that could mean more flooding and more impact on sewer systems, which can't handle the extra runoff. He says that could result in the release of untreated sewage in aging sewer systems.
