New Poll Shows Obama Leading All GOP Candidates, And Non-Candidates
TEANECK, N.J. (CBS) - A new national poll does not bode well for Republicans who have expressed an interest in opposing President Obama next year -- nor for one from New Jersey who insists he's not.
Governor Chris Christie has steadfastly maintained that if he ran -- which he won't -- he could beat Obama.
But the latest Fairleigh Dickinson University Public Mind poll suggests quite the opposite.
"Right now he would not beat Obama. In fact, right now he fares much worse than he did just a few months ago," says poll director Peter Woolley of Christie's showing against Obama.
Trailing by six points in March, Christie's gap has now widened to 16.
Obama continues to ride the post-Bin Laden popularity wave, even though approximately three out of five respondents don't like his job performance.
Christie suffers from people getting tired of all the budget-cutting talk, says Woolley, and his job performance is now even, at 44-44.
No Republican fares well in this national survey. The best among them is former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who trails Obama by six points. But he does attract 80 percent of Republicans surveyed, better than anyone else.
