New Poll Says Obama Would Trounce Romney In New Jersey

Now that the Republican presidential nominee appears to have been decided with the exit of former US senator Rick Santorum (see related story), how does the matchup of Mitt Romney and President Obama play out in New Jersey?
Quinnipiac University Polling Institute director Maurice Carroll says you can keep New Jersey in the "blue" state column come this fall.
He says that 1,600 registered voters were surveyed last week by the institute and more of them are in the Obama camp.
"President Obama leads Mitt Romney in New Jersey, 49 to 40 (percent) in the Quinnipiac measure," Carroll tells KYW Newsradio.
Carroll says the poll also posed the question of how voters might feel if New Jersey governor Chris Christie were picked by Romney as his running mate.
"Put Christie in as vice president, it's 49 to 42 (percent)," Carroll says, "so not much change. You know, it's pretty much all over -- the shouting on the Republican side and in New Jersey, at this stage of the game. November looks absolutely like Obama territory."
The poll also found incumbent Democratic US senator Robert Menedez has a strong lead over his Republican challenger, state senator Joseph Kyrillos.
