New Poll Puts Gov. Corbett at Lowest Ebb of Popularity
By Tony Romeo
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A new Quinnipiac University poll shows that in Pennsylvania, Pres. Obama is up, Gov. Corbett is down, and residents are in favor the state's new voter photo ID law.
Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, says Obama leads Mitt Romney by six percentage points, 46 to 40 percent.
"The upside for the president [is that] he wins the personal popularity category by a large margin," Malloy tells KYW Newsradio. "The down side is that Mitt Romney… people we spoke to in Pennsylvania had more confidence in him creating jobs and fixing the economy."
The survey also shows Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett with his lowest job approval rating ever in Quinnipiac's polls. Voters disapprove by an overall margin of 47 to 36 percent, with a 51-percent disapproval rating among women.
The new voter ID law is favored by an overall margin of 66 to 32 percent. Ninety-one percent of Republicans back it, as do 64 percent of independents, while Democrats oppose it by a margin of 53 to 46 percent.
