New Poll Indicates Corbett Still Trailing Wolf Deeply in Pa. Governor Race

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- A new Quinnipiac University poll has more bad news for incumbent Tom Corbett as the campaign for Pennsylvania governor swings into high gear.
Two weeks ago, a Franklin and Marshall College poll showed Democratic challenger Tom Wolf leading Corbett, a Republican, by 25 points.
Now, a new Quinnipiac poll shows an almost identical gap.
In the Quinnipiac poll, Wolf leads by 24 points (59 percent to 35 percent).
Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, was at a loss today to fully explain why Corbett is so vulnerable.
"He's always been in a bad position with women. Some say it was [his] initial stance on education, cutting costs. But a lot of governors did that and are not in this position. So I can't tell you why," Malloy said.
Whatever the reason, 51 percent of Wolf backers surveyed by Quinnipiac say their vote is mainly "against Corbett."
And while 91 percent of Democrats support Wolf, only 66 percent of Republicans say they will vote for Corbett.
