New Play at Freedom Theater In North Philadelphia Focuses On Teens And Gun Violence
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A theater performance by teens for teens warns against gun violence.
Journey of a Gun begins with a straw purchase of a weapon, which then moves through several hands and several crimes. Young people make choices and sometimes pay for those choices.
Thom Page, director of outreach for New Freedom Theater, says it's the play's young actors who are the draw, "When children see other children their age, it kind of makes a kind of an impact. And then at the end of the show, the youth population who is viewing the show can ask questions."
Page says through a federal justice department grant, many of Philadelphia's school students will get to see the play for free.
Journey of a Gun runs from February 24th through March 12th. More from information go to freedomtheatre.org.
