New Pennsport Bar Caters To Those In 'The Industry'
By Stasia DeMarco
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Want more than a shift drink after work? At the Industry, bartenders, servers, cooks, management staff and their groupies have an oasis just for them!
The Industry is located at 1401 E. Moyamensing Avenue (3rd & Reed Streets) in the Pennsport section of South Philadelphia. Owners by Dave Garry and Heather Gleason, of Good Dog, say they always wanted to create a spot that was, well, for people exactly like them--restaurant workers.
Everyone knows the people in the restaurant business love to spend money and have a blast when they got out, so to give back to the community and ensure even more pleasure is to be had, Garry says he wants his spot to be EXTRA special. So he added a special on top of the regular specials -- an "in the biz" discount offered all day, everyday. All you need to do is to show up with your time card, pay stub or something else that proves you work at a bar or restaurant, and you automatically get 20% off anything all the time.
Garry mixes up the specials with Monday night Burgers and Bubbles, buckets of beer and a real push on social media. On Wednesday and Thursdays, be sure to follow @theindustrybar on Twitter and on Facebook to find out the secret specials of the day.
Listen to Garry chat about how the Industry came to be and just how much fun it is to party after work with the 'in-crowd':
Of course, if you're a novice, you're most certainly welcome to enter -- at your own risk. This is a crowd for the big dog partiers, so be sure you can hang on the porch or have a minder in the event that you need help finding your way home. And if you disapprove of cocktails, big-time tipping and tons of shop talk, you may want to go really, really early before most people in the biz get up (unless they have to work brunch!). Oh yeah, and brunch at The Industry goes until 4p.m., because who wants to work until 4 a.m. and then "get up" to make it to brunch early?
Also, if you're hungry late on a Saturday night, Chef Pat serves up a staff meal from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The theme is 'you eat what we eat!'
