New Luxury Hotel Opens In Stone Harbor

By David Madden

STONE HARBOR, N.J. (CBS) - A new hotel is open for business down the shore that locals hope will revitalize things for one particular town.

The Shelter Haven Hotel changed this town when it opened in 1912, and hopes are its' replacement, The Reeds at Shelter Haven, will do the same now. It offers 37 guest rooms and luxury suites, catering space for 200, and two top flight restaurants.

"People will find that our prices are very reasonable," managing director Ron Gorodesky said. "We're by far not the most expensive place on the island."

In-season room rates range from $400 to $1200 a night. There are already 35 weddings booked through next spring.

"It's an affluent community," Gorodesky said. "The people here appreciate this type of facility."

The town's expecting big things as well.

"My prime hope is that it's going to expand the shoulder seasons immensely," Council member and businessman Barry Mastrangelo said. "This truly is a cornerstone. It's paramount to the business district."

The hotel and restaurants will be open all year long.
