New Laws and Penalties for Poachers in Pa.
Pennsyvlania is cracking down on poachers.
KYW's Lynne Adkins reports there's a new law and new penalties for violators.
Poaching includes hunters bagging too many animals, hunting in the wrong season, and using the wrong weapon. Now they'll be hit with large fines and jail time if found guilty, according to Jerry Feaser, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Game Commission:
"Even if the poaching of a single deer were to take effect now that would carry a minimum of a $1,000 fine and 90-days in jail and 5 years license revocation."
He says for years, the commonwealth was too easy on poachers:
"You basically saw summary violations amounting to several hundred dollars in fines and that's about it."
He says poaching is a large problem in the Commonwealth.
