New Jersey's Second-Largest City To Track City Vehicles
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's second-largest city will be tracking city vehicles to eliminate personal use by employees and reduce fuel expenses.
Jersey City will first install GPS devices in 20 Public Works vehicles. The program will be expanded to other Public Works vehicles and to the Police Department and other agencies.
The city can monitor a vehicle's location, mileage and total drive time. Officials can also be notified when vehicles go outside the city's limits.
Mayor Steven Fulop says the program creates mechanisms for accountability.
