New Jersey Town Damaged By Sandy Launches 'Buy A Board' Campaign
BELMAR, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey town is seeking donations to help rebuild its boardwalk destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.
Belmar has launched its "Buy A Board" campaign.
Contributions range from $25 for "beach bums" to $5,000 for "big kahunas." Contributors will have their names and contribution listed at the beach entrance of their choice.
Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty says it's a great opportunity for people to become part of the reconstruction process.
The town is committing $20 million to rebuild its 1.3-mile boardwalk. The project includes 14,000 boards and 2,800 pilings.
The mayor is confident the boardwalk will be ready by Memorial Day.
