New Jersey State Police, Area Transit Systems On Heightened State Of Alert Following Boston Marathon Explosions
TRENTON, N.J., (CBS) – The New Jersey State Police and New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness convened at the state's intelligence center to coordinate actions following the explosions that happened near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday.
State Police say there is currently no known threat to New Jersey.
However, State Police has recalled and pre-deployed the bomb unit, aviation crews, tactical teams, and search and rescue assets.
Police urge the public to report tips about suspicious activity to 1-866-4-SAFE NJ (1-866-472-3365).
N.J. Homeland Security and State Police are keeping Governor Chris Christie and their partner agencies updated with their actions.
State Police say they are also in contact with private sector partners such as large businesses, hotels and critical infrastructure, including power plants and chemical plants.
New Jersey Transit is currently in a heightened state of alert. NJ Transit police have deployed both uniformed and plain clothed officers to further patrol the system. There has been no specific threat made to the NJ Transit system at this time. Customers should report any suspicious or unusual activity to NJ Transit police at 1-888-TIPS-NJT.
