New Jersey Rakes In The Cash From Sale Of Mega Millions Tickets

NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- All that excitement over the record Mega Millions jackpot last weekend may not have left any of you much richer, but states that participate in the game sure are.
Nobody hit it big in nine and a half weeks of play, allowing the jackpot to rise to that $640 million level. That increased play in the Garden State by more than 400% over a typical drawing by the time they got to the final March 30th game when the tickets hit in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas.
"Based on the results of the Mega Millions game, the contributions from the New Jersey Lottery to the state will be approximately $40.6 million," says NJ Lottery spokeswoman Judy Drucker.
That will go to fund education and programs for veterans in the state. Drucker couldn't say how much higher that contribution is from a normal nine and a half week run.
