New Jersey Mobile Home Park Hit Hard By Floods
THOROFARE, N.J. (CBS) - The water pump at Willow Woods Mobile Home Park has been fighting a losing battle against the floods. After a day of rain soaked the region, more than half a foot of water covers the ground in some places.
"About 10:30 this morning, it started getting really bad," said David Read.
Read's home near the water looks more like a boat from his backdoor. The electric meters stick out from the flooded yard. Roads in the park are flooded. Many people here left their homes to find safety. It has been worse here in the past, but this flood was scary enough.
"Everyone else in the cul de sac started getting out of here just before 11:00," said Read.
"There's been five floods here in the last ten years," remembered Brenda Borneo.
The combination of rain and tides put Borneo's shack floor underwater. She says she cannot get flood insurance, because the area is at such a high risk for high water.
The waters are finally receding after a day of flooding in the park. But they know how bad it has been here before and how bad it may get again.
