New Jersey Man Faces Up To 10 Years In Prison For Shooting Drone
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a southern New Jersey man is facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted of shooting down a drone flying above his neighborhood last year.
Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor says 33-year-old Russell Percenti was indicted Tuesday on charges of possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose and criminal mischief.
The drone's owner told police he was taking aerial photos of a friend's home under construction on Sept. 26, 2014 before he heard gunshots and lost control of the device.
The man retrieved his damaged drone near the 1000 block of Seashore Road and notified police.
Percenti has been released on bail.
His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
