Christie Visits Iowa, Rekindling Speculation About A Presidential Run
TRENTON, NJ (CBS) - New Jersey governor Chris Christie is in Iowa today, sparking more speculation about his presidential aspirations, even though he's ruled out a run in 2012. The governor is speaking at an education summit.
Republican candidates Michelle Bachman and Tim Pawlenty may be unhappy that Christie's in Iowa at the same time they're campaigning there, and some New Jersey residents said they're not exactly pleased with the governor's trip either.
"It does seem kind of curious," one woman says. "If he's not running, why is he going to Iowa?"
This man says he shouldn't be there in the first place, "He should concentrate on doing more for the people than worrying about the presidential race."
The governor will give a 15-minute speech at a conference on Iowa's education troubles. He'll talk about what he's done in New Jersey, a record that draws a mixed review.
"He's doing school reform in New Jersey. He's forcing the teachers to pay for their health care."
Others aren't so impressed, "I think the idea of him talking about school reform and trying to teach somebody that is pretty much a really bad joke."
Governor Christie will also headline a fundraiser for an Iowa congressman.
