Christie Takes Jab At 'Daily News' Over Atlantic City Murder Coverage
By David Madden
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) - As the Jersey Shore opens the tourist season, Atlantic City has to deal with the aftermath of this week's murders of a mother and daughter from Canada. And Governor Chris Christie is among those more than a little displeased with some of the media coverage.
No matter how much security is in place, random acts of violence will happen, but officials insist things are, in fact, getting better -- and safer.
But a headline in the Philadelphia Daily News this week, calling Atlantic City a "Tourist Death Trap" caught Christie's eye, and not in a good way.
"Philadelphia's got enough of its own problems. So, the folks in Philadelphia who are expressing opinions -- they should clean their own house up first before they worry about coming to New Jersey and messing with us."
With the state now in control of areas around the casinos and those casinos spending millions on a new ad campaign, publicity like this they don't need. Christie's bringing his family to Atlantic City for part of the Memorial Day weekend, staying Saturday night in the newly opened Revel.
