New Jersey GOP To Pay For Chris Christie's Helicopter Ride
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's Republican State Committee is picking up the tab for Gov. Chris Christie to fly to a fundraiser in a State Police helicopter.
Christie was flown to Saddle River from Trenton on Monday night. The copter landed in a field at the Saddle River Day School and Christie was driven to the fundraiser and then home.
Christie was the featured guest at the Bergen County Republican Organization event.
Christie spokeswoman Michael Drewniak told The Record newspaper in an email the governor had to use the helicopter because of unspecified "changes" to Christie's schedule.
Drewniak says an invoice for costs of the one-way trip was requested in advance.
Christie drew scrutiny last year about his helicopter use. He and the Republican State Committee later reimbursed taxpayers for the trips.
