New Jersey Eligible For $103 Million In Homeland Security Funds
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey could receive up to $103 million in federal homeland security funds.
About $42 million of the funding announced Thursday by U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg will go toward port security. Northern New Jersey and Delaware River ports are to share the money.
About $37.3 million will address security needs of high-threat, high-density urban areas. Another $11.9 million will be used by the state to equip and train emergency responders to deal with acts of terrorism and other catastrophic events.
The funding comes from the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, which Congress recently passed.
The $103 million is the total amount available to New Jersey. The state must work with the federal Department of Homeland Security to receive the funds.
