New Jersey Driver's License Gets High-Tech Security Upgrade
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - Officials have unveiled new driver licenses now being issued in New Jersey. The aim is to make them counterfeit-proof.
These days, a driver's license is so much more than just a license to drive. And truth be told, the Motor Vehicle Commission has been quietly rolling out the Enhanced Digital Driver License since February.
MVC Administrator Raymond Martinez says most of the changes can only be viewed by a trained eye.
"There's also 17 covert features that need some type of tool, whether it's a black light or a jeweler's eyeglass to look at," he said.
Not to mention two features only visible to police and motor vehicles staff. There are more changes on the way, including the use of facial recognition technology that will actually allow drivers to renew their licenses on line occasionally, since new pictures will only be needed every eight years instead of the current four.
