New Jersey Democrats Gather In New Brunswick For Unity Meeting
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Democrats called a meeting to unify the fractured party before the fall elections, and pretty much everyone showed up.
The entire Democratic congressional delegation, three of the four Democrats running for U.S. Senate and legislative leaders from across the state were among more than 400 people who filled a ballroom at a New Brunswick hotel on Saturday morning.
"Could this be love," asked Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono, who has experienced little affection from the party since she decided to take on Republican Gov. Chris Christie.
New Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie called the meeting to help heal intra-party divisions.
Buono has a wide gap to close in her race against Christie, and Democrats want to protect their majorities in the Senate and Assembly.
