New Jersey Criticized For Holding Onto Sandy Housing Aid
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey officials say they have distributed just over one-third of the federal aid allocated for housing help after Superstorm Sandy.
The state's Community Affairs Department released the figure Tuesday after an analysis by two housing advocacy groups found the figure was 24 percent.
The figures cited in the report by the Housing and Community Development Network and Fair Share Housing Center relied on information provided by the state through open-records requests and press releases. None of the figures was current, though, and some were more than a month old.
The housing groups say the state has not moved quickly enough to distribute the $1.16 billion in housing aid the federal government awarded in May.
The state says it was delayed by Congressional inaction after last year's storm.
