New Jersey Boy Seriously Injured In Sand Tunnel Collapse
LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured when a massive sand tunnel he was building at a central New Jersey beach collapsed on him.
Long Branch officials say the boy, identified only as an Ocean Township resident, was building the tunnel with his younger brother when it collapsed around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. The boys' mother, who was nearby when the collapse occurred, called 911 and
reported her son was covered in sand.
Emergency responders soon dug out the child and performed CPR on the boy, who was unconscious.
Details on the boy's injuries were not disclosed. But authorities say he regained consciousness after being taken to a hospital, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit on Tuesday night.
