New Jersey Approves Second Facility To Grow Medical Marijuana

By David Madden

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) - New Jersey officials have cleared a second facility to start growing medical marijuana, this one in Egg Harbor, Atlantic County. Prescriptions could start being filled there as soon as this fall.

The Compassionate Care Foundation reached an agreement with the town more than a year ago to open a growing center and dispensary in a local industrial park. They hope to get their second, and final state permit in about three months.

Ken Wolski is Executive Director of the Coalition for Medical Marijuana, "This would be the second alternative treatment center in the state. That would only represent one third of the actual working program that the law calls for. The law calls for six alternative treatment centers."

The other one now in operation is in Montclair. Still, supporters of medical marijuana contend the state has been slow in implementing the law adopted just before Chris Christie took office three and a half years ago. A demonstration is planned in Trenton today to drive home that point again.
