New Indoor Flea Market Opens In Center City

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new five-week indoor flea market opened in Center City Saturday just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Mark Vevle, who produced the now-defunct Brooklyn Flea Market at the Piazza in Northern Liberties has opened a brand new indoor flea market called the Franklin Flea Market at the former Strawbridge's building at 8th and Market Streets.

"The space is amazing," Vevle says. "The area that we're occupying for the market is the old make-up counter and handbags area right as you walk in off the street. But they've cleared everything out so it was a blank slate and perfect for our market!"

He says the market will be open until just before Christmas.

"We run every Saturday from 10am-5pm," Vevle says. "We're going to do one special market on Friday, December 20th which is that weekend before Christmas. We're going to do that from noon-7pm."

And what can you find at the flea market?

"The vendor mix is really focused on antique, vintage and collectibles," Vevle says. "We've got some handmade items, some jewelry, vintage clothing, and then some really delicious food."
