New Head of National Constitution Center Sees Role in Improving Discourse
By John Ostapkovich
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The incoming president and CEO of the National Constitution Center attends his first official event this evening, three weeks before he officially takes over.
Prior to moderating an event with a Constitution Center trustee, Jeffrey Rosen -- a George Washington University law professor -- talked with KYW Newsradio about his vision for the museum. He said he wants it to be a resource for America and the world, to get both sides of any contested Constitutional issue.
And he notes that many of the center's visitors are schoolchildren.
"Is there a challenge? Of course," Rosen said today. "At every age citizens can engage with the Constitution on a different level. I teach law students, so it's one thing to talk about it with them. And I'm also the proud dad of two six-year-old boys, and we have little mini-Constitutional debates at the dinner table."
And not about whether refusing to eat Brussels sprouts can be held against them but, for example, the boundaries of privacy in a public space such as Independence Mall.
