New Grant Aims To Provide Free Spay/Neuter Services To 3,000 Cats In South Jersey

Philadelphia (CBS) – Thanks to a grant from Petsmart Charities, the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees is offering free spay/neuter services for cats in several South Jersey communities.
The two-year grant aims to provide free spay/neuter services to 3,000 cats. Who qualifies?
"Anyone who lives in the targeted areas -- Bellmawr, Lindenwold, Voorhees and all of the towns making up Gloucester Township."
The Animal Welfare Association's Christie Rogero says getting a cat fixed can save lives.
"Spaying and neutering is amazingly important for reducing the number of animals that die in shelters. People don't realize -- 'my cat had kittens, I gave away the kittens.' You don't know what happened to those kittens. Were those kittens fixed, or are they reproducing?"
And if you don't live in the qualifying communities, the AWA offers low-cost services.
"A cat can be spayed for $75 or neutered for $50," says Rogero.
