New Details In Case Against Woman Charged With Kidnapping Baby From KOP Mall
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - A 32-year-old woman will stand trial on charges she kidnapped a seven-week old baby from the King of Prussia Mall earlier this spring.
Cherie Amoore sobbed throughout Thursday's hearing, as video was shown of her befriending the mother of a seven-week-old at the mall, eventually picking the child up, bouncing the infant on her shoulder in the mall's food court, then dashing for the exit when the mother was distracted by her son.
Amoore's attorney, Marc Steinberg, says this isn't a case of did she do it:
"It appears pretty obvious if you looked at the video that they showed at the preliminary it's a case of why did she do it."
According to police, Amoore told them she claimed she lost a baby in February and emotions overwhelmed her as she held the seven-week-old.
But Montgomery County assistant district attorney Brianna Ringwood says "we have been unable to confirm that she was pregnant in the past."
Amoore remains free on $500,000 cash bail.
Next up, a formal arraignment scheduled for June 22nd.
