Man Arrested In Connection With Arson At Delaware Strip Mall

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) -- Officials have arrested a man they say torched a Delaware strip mall on Friday night.

The fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday inside a Dollar Tree store located in the Beaverbrook Plaza Shopping Center in Delaware. Authorities say the 2-alarm fire caused approximately $800,000 in damages.

On Saturday morning, the ATF offered a reward, saying they believe the fire was intentionally set.

Thousands In The Delaware Valley Region March Against Gun Violence

Timothy M. McDowell, 58, of Bear was arrested at his home on Saturday night in connection with the blaze.

McDowell is being charged with felony arson and three counts of felony reckless endangering. He is currently waiting arraignment.

The ATF says this is the second incendiary fire this business has suffered this year. The first fire occurred on January 24, 2018

No injuries were reported in the blaze.
