New Castle, Del. Man Charged With 9 Counts Of Rape
NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware man is being charged with nearly 10 counts of rape.
The investigation reportedly began in January 2013, when a 25-year-old female told police that Jorge Arellano, a 35-year-old from New Castle, confronted her in a Wilmington area parking lot, forced her into his car at gunpoint and touched her inappropriately while threatening her.
The victim, who allegedly knew Arellano, was eventually allowed to leave the car.
Police later determined Arellano was also wanted by the Dover Police Department for the May 2011 burglary of the same victim's residence. Arellano had reportedly broken into the home through a window and assaulted the victim and a male acquaintance.
As the investigation continued, police also learned Arellano had raped the same victim nine times in 2010 and 2011 at residences in Kent and New Castle County.
Arellano was eventually apprehended on Monday, March 17, 2014 on Route 13 in the area of School Lane during a traffic stop. While the suspect provided a false name, police were able to determine his true identity.
Arellano was arrested and charged with nine counts of rape first degree as well as related charges including Strangulation, Terroristic Threatening and Assault. He is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $1,708,000 cash bail.
