Police: Missing New Castle County 10-Year-Old Shamar Davis Found Safe At Friend's House
NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) -- A 10-year-old boy is now back home after being gone for days from his New Castle apartment. Shamar Davis' once-distraught mother called police Sunday night.
Shamar was reunited with his mother Monday afternoon. Neighbors who helped search for the boy cheered as he walked back into his home.
It's a happy ending for a mother who just hours earlier felt like she was living a nightmare.
Shaniece Moses offered a painful plea earlier as she was desperate to find her 10-year-old son.
"Why wouldn't he come home? Shamar, please come home," she pleaded.
Relatives and friends gathered outside of the boy's home Monday to hide his face and escort him back inside his home.
Shamar, who also goes by the nickname Bubba, was last seen playing outside of his home on Caravel Avenue at the New Castle Crossing apartment complex on Friday.
"The last time somebody saw him, them kids said that they seen him at 2:30 playing football over there," Moses said.
Moses says she knocked on doors all day Saturday and with no luck, called police on Sunday. They issued a gold alert Sunday night.
From the air, New Castle County police searched for clues as detectives canvassed the neighborhood from the ground.
"He does not have a runaway history. He's never run away before and it's an ongoing investigation so we're trying to rule everything out," New Castle County Division of Police Master Cpl. Michael Eckerd said.
Neighbors consoled Moses as they helped search for her son. They say Shamar is a student at Wilmington Manor Elementary School.
Volunteers placed flyers in local businesses. Moses held on to hope and her son was found safe.
Investigators believe he may have been with a friend.
Police say the investigation continues.
They want to know why Shamar was missing, what he was doing and where he was staying since Friday.
