New Book By Widener University Staff Looks At Improving The Quality Of Life In Chester
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Widener University faculty and students have co-written a book documenting efforts to improve life in Chester.
"Developing a culture of civic engagement is really important," says Michael Ledoux, Widener's director of the Center for Education, who co-edited the book Civic Engagement and Service Learning in a Metropolitan University: Multiple Approaches and Perspectives.
He says it's both a blueprint for other universities interested in getting involved and civic groups in getting some help. Although Widener offers many programs, Ledoux says the premier one is its charter school.
"We now are fully enrolled with K through 5, and we have now expanded, and will begin a 6th grade next year and we will be moving up to 8th grade."
The book also tracks Widener's efforts in social work and health care.
