New Beer Garden Pops Up In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Ground has not yet been broken on the planned Reading Viaduct Rail Park in Philadelphia. But residents near 10th and Hamilton are about to get a taste of what the park will have to offer.
On Friday a Beer Garden will open.
What used to be a gravel parking lot directly under a train trestle in a gritty, postindustrial neighborhood will now serve an as urban oasis. At least that's the hope of the PA Horticultural Society, which designed and built the new Pop Up Garden.
"The design of it is utilizing old storage cars which are trying to evoke the history of the rail lines above us," says the Society's landscape design expert, Lee Ann Campbell.
The bright orange storage cars hold the bar, kitchen and one seating area while adding some colorful pop to the green space.
Plenty of craft beer will be available, and for you foodies - a menu that includes pork belly and buffalo chicken steamed buns as well as upscale tater tots.
This will serve primarily as an after work summer.
