Need A Ride Home In An Emergency? A DVRPC Program Can Help

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you shy away from carpooling or taking public transit because you worry how you'd get home in case of an emergency, a program from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission might be able to help.
Lyndsay from Levittown takes the train to work. She says if her child gets sick, "I'd wait for the next train to show up, which could possibly be an hour away."
What Lyndsay doesn't realize is that a little-known program run by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission called "Emergency Ride Home" could help in those situations.
After you sign up and get approved, it will reimburse up to $50 taxi fare or a rental car for a sick child, your own unexpected illness, or even unscheduled overtime. Sounds good to Lyndsay.
"Get me home quicker, it will be beneficial, yeah, I think so," she says.
The program can be used twice a year and it's only open to southeastern PA residents who take mass transit, ride their bikes, or carpool to work at least three times a week.
