NCAA: Tournament Day for Temple, Penn State
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 25-7 Temple Owls are set to open play in the NCAA Tournament this afternoon as they take on Penn State in Tucson, Ariz.
They are from the same state, they have great senior leadership, and Owls head coach Fran Dunphy (right) sees a lot of other similarities between his club and Penn State.
"I think we both are similar, defensively," he says. "Both make our money on man-to-man defense. I think we both do a good job of helping one another, and I think we pay attention to that detail. And we are probably not the fastest offensive teams as well, in terms of shooting quickly."
A lot has been made lately of the fact that Dunphy has just one win in a dozen NCAA appearances. Is there a lot of pressure on him because of that stat?
"It's what we live with, and that's OK," Dunphy told KYW Newsradio. " We need to find a way to win a game and that's what we are focusing on."
If Temple can win today, they would advance to play the winner of San Diego State and Northern Colorado on Saturday.
