Navy Seals Coming to Schuykill Banks

by KYW's Steve Tawa

US navy seals will be landing their 'special ops' boats at Schuylkill Banks Wednesday afternoon, where there will be a tree planting for a 'navy seal grove.'

It's the second navy day in two years, according to Joseph Syrnick of the Schuylkill River Development Corporation:

"We're going to have about 20 navy combat personnel visit Schuylkill Banks with two Mark V combat boats."

The special warfare combatant craft crewmen, or SWCCS, will let you check out the boats, which are capable of topping 50 knots.  What about their state of the art weaponry?

"These are the type of boats used in stealth operations when they would approach enemy territory, dispatch some navy seals who would swim to shore, rescue the ambassador and get him out of their quickly."

Four trees will be planted at Schuylkill Banks near the Walnut Street Dock, in honor of living navy seal medal of honor recipients and late wife of a former seal, for her contributions as a seal spouse.
