National Health Study Shows Mixed Results For Philadelphia Region
By David Madden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A newly released study looks into the health of people in every county in every state across America -- and what can be done to improve things.
Philadelphia comes in dead last among Pennsylvania's 67 counties. That sounds pretty bad -- until you consider that the survey by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation looks at 29 different factors, including economics, education and environment, not just what people eat and how much they exercise.
Foundation Senior Vice President James Marks says the news for Philadelphia isn't all bad.
"Philadelphia has been a very good story on how, with work over the last few years, they've started to turn around their child obesity epidemic," he says.
The Pennsylvania suburbs all rank in the top 10, except for Delaware County, which ranks at 41.
In New Jersey's 21 counties, Burlington comes in at 11, Gloucester 13 and Camden in 17th place.
