National Geographic Holds Photo Contest
By John Ostapkovich
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you're into photography, and not just selfies or pictures of your food, National Geographic has a contest that could be very valuable, maybe priceless.
It's called "Your Shot," and has already collected more than 10,000 entries on the topic "Explore Your Changing World."
National Geographic photographer and site curator Corey Richards says there are money and travel prizes for the winner and "one of several of the images will be published in the actual magazine."
Richards says his key to a great photo is that it's emotionally evocative. And, he notes, success in achieving that may run a wide gamut.
"You're running from complete amateur to full professional and everybody's giving feedback, so it's not just, like, 'Hey, check out my really cool single image.' It's, 'Check this out, I'm trying to tell the story of our changing world and this is how I see that vision.' It's very story-driven and feedback-driven."
You can upload a submission until October 22nd, then site users will vote for their favorites.
